A night 'Up Close & Personal' with Longhorn WSV, TSG and IIS
Earlier this week in Brisbane we had the Brisbane Infrastructure Group meeting and the Technet Update sessions -- But you guys read this blog so you knew that already :)
There was some great content presented. For me personally, nothing beats a demo.
...and I reckon from all the excited faces at the session, there are a few others that would agree with me. Sure you can read the whitepapers, blogs and websites; but nothing beats a good 'roll your sleeves up, here is how it works' demo.
So if you are thinking of getting along to a Technet Update session (and you should be), rest assured you are going to see some good stuff as Anthony has already pointed out.
Before I go, there is something that I'd like to share. It's called the 'hmmmm look'. Let me explain. I imagine most people have already seen the video on Windows Server Virtualization (aka WSV or Viridian). If you have seen the video, you know it's kinda cool, because hot-add hardware inside a Virtual Machine is cool. So you watch the video and you've seen whats possible. But the 'hmmmm look' doesn't happen until later -- usually during a demo.
And last night during Jeff's demo I saw a lot of the 'hmmmm look'.
Jeff was running his 'roll your sleeves up' Viridian demo; hot adding memory, CPU and NICs to his Virtual Machines. As he's doing this you can see people in the room, shuffling in their seats, grinning to themselves, and chatting. ...and that is what I like to call 'hmmmm look'. That wonderful moment between "I've heard it works" and "I was there and I've seen it working with my own eyes". Very quickly the 'hmmmm look' turns into of lots healthy discussion and exchanging of ideas. I like lots healthy discussion and exchanging of ideas :)
As Beta 3 of Longhorn gets closer, I'm looking a lot more of the 'hmmmm look'.
But it's also 9:30 am so I'm looking forward to my first cup of coffee for the day. With that I'll sign off. Safe travels to those who need to spend time on the roads and wishing everyone a restful break over the Easter Holidays. See you in a few days!
