And another "hello"
Hi Folks,
Frank had the idea that this month, the three local RD's would share the host role. Dr Neil has already said hi. I'm saying hi in this post so then it's over to Adam.
Just a quick intro on myself. I've been working as a developer since about 1978 so I usually describe myself as fitting into dinosaur criteria. The thing I love about this industry is that you have to accept that about 90% of what you know today will be pretty useless in about 4 years time so it keeps you on your toes.
For a long time in the 80's I worked for Hewlett Packard doing systems engineering. Loved working there but didn't want to move to Melbourne when they wanted me to. The irony of that is that I've just recently moved to Melbourne from my beloved Brisbane.
In the second half of the 80's and the early 90's, I worked as a lecturer and tech services manager for the IT faculty at QUT where I also ended up doing a research masters degree followed by a PhD in computer science.
Since then, I've been doing consulting and development work. For the last few years, I've been a Senior Consultant with Readify. (Yes, I'm another one of the Readify gang, along with the last host Mitch Denny). I head up the SQL Server practice for Readify.
The local developer and SQL Server communities are a real passion for me. I'm in the SQL Server MVP list and spend a lot of time each day communicating with the SQL Server product groups. I love where the product is now and where it is going. My RD role has also helped build a whole new array of contacts within Microsoft. Every day I am also in awe of the achievements of the other RD's around the world. They are a truly amazing bunch of people.
Along with Mitch, I help organise CodeCampOz in April each year and I also organise SQL Down Under Code Camp in October each year. My blog is at http://msmvps.com/greglow and the podcast and mailing list I organise on SQL Server topics is at www.sqldownunder.com.
I'm looking forward to being a host for this month. Over to you Adam.
