Behind The Scenes At TechEd #8 - Bernard Oh
While I wait for teh other two track owners to get back to me with their interview answers, it's time to have a look at Student Day. Student Day is a free event put on the day before TechEd starts, to give all those poor students out there a taste of what they might be able to afford once they graduate :)
Bernard Oh is the man in charge this year.
- Who are you, and what do you do when you aren't doing things for TechEd?
I'm Bernard Oh, the DPE intern here in Microsoft Australia. Currently, I am also heavily engaged in the WW Imagine Cup Finals which is happening in India starting this weekend. Together with Deeps, I organised this year's Australia Imagine Cup Finals recently.
- What's the secret location of this year's party?
Err ... what party *looking left, right and elsewhere, pretending to look cool.* Psss. Give me you name and I will add you to the secret guest list in the covert location.
- What are you organising for TechEd this year?
I am organising this year's Student Day together with lots of support internally from DPE. Student Day aims to be the IT Big Day out! This year speakers line up is going to be really exciting one. We got the big guns from Michael Page IT Recruitment, Microsoft Recruitment, exciting Vista, Office 2007 and Microsoft Expression (led by Frank Arrigo, Jeff Alexander and Dave Glover) demos and a big segment on digital lifestyle and entertainment. It's gonna be a great day out for every student.
- Are you doing anything else for TechEd this year, or just concentrating on student day?
Student Day is just one of the several items I work on here in DPE. I am also working along with our local Microsoft Student Ambassadors and Developer Evangelists across the country to organise various campus activities including Visual Studio dev sessions and the upcoming University Vista Tour. Other times, I will be assisting with other members of the team with their various events held throughout the year. If it's a Microsoft event organised by DPE, you will see me there.
- Why hold student day? Why should student's come - what will they get out of it?
Student Day is an ideal opportunity for students to experience the Tech.Ed experience as well as a great opportunity for them to have a great time exploring and learning the latest Microsoft technology and network with personal from the industry.
- Does this mean they shouldn't come to TechEd itself?
Certainly not. Student Day at best is only a precursor to the entire Tech.Ed experience. The learning and networking opportunties in such an event is simply unparallel.
- For the students that can't come, can they still find out what you're focusing on and perhaps get access to some of the content?
Most of the Student Day contents will be made available online at a later date.
Thanks Bernard!
