There's something about being a geek.

There's all manner of geek out there. Generally a geek is a computer junkie, that's a given. But the number of sub-species with the geek label is immense. You've got your Linux geek, your windows geek, your mac geek, your coding geek. Your geek doesn't need to be just on computers either - technology of all sorts gets a geek's blood pumping. And science. Don't get me started on science! (On that note, there's another T Shirt I really want. As a geek, I'd wear it with pride :)

I know the code geek best. In there we have the specific language geeks. C, C++, SQL, Perl, php, VB, C#. Every geek is different.

But at the same time, we're united. It doesn't matter what sort of geek you are - a code geek, a sysadmin geek, and dba geek, we're all welcome at TechEd. We're all welcome things that unite and celebrate being a geek. TechEd might target windows geeks, but you get what I mean.

Sure, a .net geek might not ordinarily even acknowledging spitting on a Linux geek, or, even worse, a script kiddy, but when push comes to shove, the Linux geek is my brother in the war against....

umm...

Sports fans?

Well, I might have lost it a little there.

There's a point to this however. Tonight saw the return of another one of those things that unite us geeks in the brotherhood (and sisterhood) of geekdom. It's one of things that rank up there with finding amusement in dumb jokes about computers that only other geeks would understand (There's no place like 127.0.0.1, for example). With arguments over who was the best captain of the enterprise (Kirk, I say!).With discussions that only contains numbers and words like meg and gig and make perfect sense.

Tonight in Australia the ABC broadcast the Christmas episode of Doctor Who, which seems to be a transitional episode between the 2005 and 2006 series's.

Last year I was extremely impressed with the new Doctor Who. And it ended with him changing. Now I've had a chance to see what 2006's Doctor is like, and I'm just as impressed. I'm going to miss Christopher Eccleston, sure, but this guy will do fine :)

I love being a geek., and sitting in the lounge room watching a geek show (which even included references to HHGTTG!) really does sum up how I like to spend a Saturday night. w00t!
