Vista Vibes #2: Grant Holliday
Hi Grant, couple of quick questions if I may.
How long have you been running Vista for on your desktop (honestly)?
Since Friday when you sent me this email. I had an dual-boot install already (http://www.holliday.com.au/blog/windows-vista-5365-installation-experience.html).
Tell me about a Vista feature have you discovered recently.
Which one? I've spent three days finding new features. Things I've been mucking about with:
IE Search Providers
Virtual Server / IIS7 Installation
RSS Feed Engine
Windows Sidebar Gadgets
Are you going to attend any of the upcoming Vista events?
Yup
Any interesting Vista stories to tell?
The "Add new printer" dialog is really neat. After going to the printer and printing out it's config to get the IP address, I went to add the printer in Vista, and it had automatically detected it on the network. XP did this, but it kind of did it in the background
Finally, you’re a bit of a systems guy so what can you tell me about any new administrative features in Vista? Is there anything new that you’ve liked the look of and what types of new things have you found as you’ve rummaged around at the bottom of the Control Panel? Have you had a chance to look into the new IIS settings in Vista? Do they make sense to you?
The Task Scheduler has got to be the neatest feature I've found in the bottom of Control Panel lately. It allows you to schedule tasks to happen when a particular EventID shows up in the event log. Some of the in-the-box actions include "Send Email" and "Show Message". http://www.microsoft.com/technet/windowsvista/mgmntops/taskschd.mspx
I haven't really looked at the new IIS settings, I just used the pkgmgr command line to install the required components. But the IIS admin tool looks pretty neat.
