Michael Kleef's Interview Answers
I'm a bit behind with posting these, but here's Michael's answers to my mini-interview.
Aside from the boiler plate text that is posted on the eForum web site about your presentation, what would you say are the cool points in your presentation?
MK: Showing true Kerberos federation with Linux into Active Directory. Showing off the new Password Management Portal for MIIS.
From your talk, what are the top 3 things you want the attendees to take home with them?
MK: That SSO for platforms can work. SSO for Applications is very difficult to achieve but a single joined identity isn’t. Business cost can be reduced by joined identity and central password management and integrate into a business process based workflow. Pursuing the nirvana of SSO in everything is currently fruitless and doesn’t address the true business cost around helpdesk’s constantly resetting passwords etc.
Why is your talk important, what is the industry need behind it?
MK: Because SSO has been overpromised and underdelivered. I talk about what you can actually achieve in reality.
Who do you think will get the most from your talk?
MK: Techies looking to implement solutions – I show them exactly how to do it.
What is your ‘pet’ security topic?
MK: Hmm…I don’t have a pet J
What do you think IT Pro and Developers need to be looking to do better in the future?
MK: Business Process. Thinking about how business processes work and how they can integrate and workflow them through better automation. Manual processes suck. Identity lifecycle management is no different yet its always a disconnected business process.
